Woodturning is an art form with few limitations. By combining components and techniques I can create just about any shape or size. By arranging different woodspecies, I can create many types of surface designs. Then I can add carving and painting and the possibilities are endless. There is also the ability to create decorative or sculptural pieces or artistic utilitarian works. There are few art forms that give you this type of freedom. This lack of restriction keeps my mind engaged - contemplating the possibilities. Figuring out how to deal with the technical problems of getting the shape and form I want provides continuous stimulation and thought. I create with this art form because it is fun and because I enjoy the look on peoples faces when they touch and feel a vessel or bowl, use a beautiful pepper mill or contemplate a sculpture piece. Custom Designed Personal Life Sculpture Medium(s): Bronze, Glass, Ceramic Part of: The Finer Arts Gallery Gullwing’s sculptures focus on both animal and human form, however Personal Portrait Sculpture is Gullwing’s specialty. The human body endlessly inspires the artist with its beauty, variety, and complexity. Through Lifecasting, Gullwing’s faces, torsos, and hands are exact sculptural images of his models. The complex and multi-step process begins by building a negative mold of the person, which is then ‘cast’ using various materials to create the finished work. He works with a wide variety of materials for his final piece of art: glass, plaster, and fiberglass reinforced gypsum in addition to cast metals which include aluminum, bronze, and cast iron. He also works in cold-cast metal powders and leather. At his studio in Scottsdale, Gullwing does sculpture portraits on commission, but will also produce commissioned figure studies of hired models on request. -

My art adventure has taken some interesting twists and turns over the years. It started with black and white photography, which pivoted into alternative photo processes. Then my work segued into collage art -- both digital and paper collage. My digital collages (also referred to as photo montages) are a compilation of my photographs, scanned papers, and scanned objects. Some are multi-layered and quite complex, depending upon the images I use. I like to experiment with blending modes, opacities, and layer order to add texture and create special effects.
