About
Learn about the area's first inhabitants, the Hohokam, and the region’s evolution into a vital territory for the military, miners, cattlemen and sheepherders. Inside the museum you’ll find exhibits of Sonoran Desert life, Cave Creek's first schoolhouse and works by local artists, the Archaeology Wing and the History Wing. Outdoor Exhibits include the Golden Reef Stamp Mill, the Town's original bandshell, the first church of Cave Creek and the last known original Tubercular Cabin in Arizona. The Museum's Arizona Gold Mining Experience showcases Arizona's only operational ore crushing mill. Ten 1,000 pound stamps slam down in synchronized motion to crush hard rock ore. Highlights of the Arizona Gold Mining Experience include:
Live Blacksmithing: Feel the heat of the forge as a blacksmith crafts handmade tools and nails over hot coals. Plus, you'll get to take home your very own hand-forged nail as a keepsake.
Mining Tech: See the full extraction process in action, featuring the mine shaft, tramway and ore carts.
Gold Panning: Head to the panning station to learn the techniques of the old prospectors. Try your luck - you might just strike gold!
