Curt Harris

Sculptor Curt Harris has been creating art since childhood. His father would take him on many watercolor painting adventures in the mountains of Utah. Art was a part of everyday life. My Father painted this piece of the Ogden River where we went fishing and he still has it displayed in his home. As an undergraduate student ceramics became his medium. First it started with wheel thrown pieces but soon he was creating large abstract sculpture. He received his Bachelor's degree from Weber State College in Ogden, Utah. He received his Master's of Fine Art degree in sculpture from Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona in 1982. After graduating Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky was his next stop. He taught a gallery exhibits class and oversaw two students galleries and the main gallery for the University; the Clara M. Eagle gallery. He wrote grants and was the chairman of the visiting artist committee. Leaving the University he traveled back to Tempe where he became the Director of the Susan Brown Gallery in Scottsdale. He worked there for a few years and then opened up his own studio in Tempe. At this time, he changed the materials he was using; he went from clay to wood. He loved the idea that he could create three dimension artwork in an almost unlimited capacity. He began showing in three galleries in Scottsdale and Tucson, Arizona and in Santa Barbara, California. His artwork reflects his outlook on life through his dreams. It is greatly influenced by his surroundings and activities. His experiences fill the senses and his creativity releases this information. He likes telling stories of his life experiences. He believes life itself is true art.
