But sometimes the easiest way to understand a place is simply to see it.
YouTube has accumulated an interesting collection of videos about Cave Creek over the years. Some are driving tours. Others follow hikers up Black Mountain. Some focus on restaurants and attractions, while others simply let you watch the desert scenery roll past the windshield.
None of these videos tells the whole Cave Creek story.
Together, however, they provide several different ways to explore the community before visiting — or to notice something new even if you already live here.
Here are a few worth watching.

This video from Living in Arizona Now provides a broad introduction to Cave Creek and has become one of the more widely viewed Cave Creek tours on YouTube.
The tour travels through Cave Creek Road and visits recognizable local stops including Frontier Town, Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area and several well-known restaurants and entertainment destinations.
Because it covers several different parts of the community, this is a useful video for someone who has heard about Cave Creek but doesn't yet understand how everything fits together geographically.
It was produced in 2020, so individual businesses, prices and other details may have changed. The visual tour itself, however, remains useful.

One of the advantages of this newer tour is that it doesn't stop at the Cave Creek town boundary.
It explores both Cave Creek and neighboring Carefree, which makes sense to anyone familiar with the area. The two communities are separate towns with noticeably different personalities, but residents and visitors move between them constantly.
The video provides views of Cave Creek Road, restaurants, neighborhoods and the Carefree area while giving viewers a better sense of the relationship between the two communities.
If you're considering a visit or are new to the foothills, this is a useful visual orientation.

Sometimes a simple driving video is more useful than a polished travel feature.
This virtual tour takes viewers around the Cave Creek area and provides a street-level look at Cave Creek Road, Black Mountain and portions of the commercial and entertainment district.
That's particularly helpful if you've never been here.
Cave Creek doesn't have a conventional downtown built around a central square. Much of what visitors think of as downtown stretches along Cave Creek Road, and watching someone drive through the area helps explain that layout better than a map alone.
This video is also older, so consider it a visual snapshot rather than a current business directory.

Black Mountain dominates the landscape around Cave Creek and Carefree, but seeing it from the road and climbing it are very different experiences.
This hiking video follows the Black Mountain trail and gives viewers a useful look at the rocky terrain, steep climb and views that open up as elevation increases.
It's particularly valuable for prospective hikers because photographs from the summit don't always communicate how quickly the trail gains elevation.
Black Mountain isn't an especially long hike, but it is steep, exposed and demanding — particularly when temperatures rise.
Watching someone actually travel the trail can help you decide whether it's the right hike for you.
Always check current trail access and conditions before heading out, and carry appropriate water for desert conditions.

One reason we included a second Black Mountain video is that hiking videos are personal.
Different hikers notice different things, move at different speeds and experience the same trail differently.
This 2025 video provides another perspective on the climb and shows why Black Mountain continues to attract both residents and visitors despite its relatively short distance.
It also demonstrates something easy to forget when looking up at the mountain from town: once you're climbing, the surrounding Sonoran Desert becomes the real attraction.
A Cave Creek Vlog and Walking Tour

This video combines driving and walking around Cave Creek, including portions of Cave Creek Road and Frontier Town.
It has some real-estate-oriented content, but the useful part for our purposes is simply seeing the community at ground level.
Videos like this can capture details that polished tourism pieces sometimes miss: the spacing between businesses, the Western architecture, desert landscaping and the way different parts of Cave Creek connect along the main road.
Why We Like Watching Different People's Versions of Cave Creek
One of the interesting things about these videos is how differently creators interpret the same place.
One sees Cave Creek primarily as a Western town.
Another concentrates on restaurants and entertainment.
Someone else notices the hiking.
A driver focuses on scenery.
A prospective resident looks at neighborhoods.
None is necessarily wrong.
Cave Creek really is all of those things at once.
That's also why we wouldn't recommend watching just one video and assuming you've figured the place out.
Remember That YouTube Is a Snapshot
There's one caution worth mentioning.
YouTube videos don't automatically update themselves.
A video made several years ago may show a business that has since closed, a restaurant that has changed, an old trail access point or information that is no longer current.
Use older videos for the scenery, history and general feel of the community, but verify practical information before making plans.
That's especially important for trail access, hours, admission fees, businesses and seasonal activities.
Then Come See It Yourself
Videos are useful, but Cave Creek isn't particularly good at fitting inside a screen.
A camera doesn't quite capture how Black Mountain changes color late in the day.
It doesn't reproduce the smell of the desert after rain.
It can't give you the temperature difference when you step from pavement into a shaded wash.
And watching someone else drive Cave Creek Road isn't quite the same as pulling over because you spotted a shop, restaurant, gallery or trail you hadn't planned to visit.
So consider these videos an introduction.
Watch a few.
Figure out what catches your attention.
Then close YouTube and come discover Cave Creek for yourself.
